静かに降り続く雨のなかで、その音だけが届かない—。
田中みずほは、そんな心の位相に似た“無音の気配”を、色・線・テクスチャーのレイヤーとして掬い上げます。具象のかたちに寄りかからず、アクリルとペンの流動線、薄く重なる色面、紙や布、ファイバーの軽やかな質感を組み合わせ、胸の奥をよぎる一瞬の揺れを画面（ときに空間）に定着させる。そこに立ち現れるのは、静止しているのに脈打つ、時間の痕跡です。
田中の抽象は“テーマ先行”で組み立てられます。
《白の物語》（2019）では“白”という余白の物語性を、そして《忘れるということ》（2024）では淡い層と透明感によって“忘却”の切なさと美しさを描きました。本展「雨の音も聞こえない」では、周囲に雨が降っているのにその音だけが遮断されるような、思考の渦に感覚が追いつかない状態を扱います。耳ではなく、皮膚や呼吸で聴く雨—その知覚のズレを、画面のレイヤーとリズムとして可視化します。
素材は感情のメタファーとして選ばれます。
布のたわみは心の揺れ、ファイバーの軽さは思考の浮遊、陶の重さは記憶の沈殿。キルト制作の背景に由来する重層構造は、画面の内側に微細な気流と間（ま）を生み、わびさびの感覚と現代的な抽象性を結び合わせます。結果として生まれる作品は、暗い主題を扱いながらも決して重たく沈まない—微細な光の反射と呼吸のリズムが、観る者それぞれの記憶に接続する“余白”を確保します。
雨は止まない。けれど、音はしない。

Mizuho Tanaka translates the finest grains of feeling into layers of color, line, and breath.
Working beyond figuration, she composes fluid pen lines and translucent acrylic fields with paper, cloth, and fiber, allowing emotional flickers to settle on the surface—sometimes expanding into space. What emerges is a record of time that appears still yet pulses within.
Tanaka’s abstraction is guided by theme.
In The Story of White (2019) she explored the narrative of “white” as fertile emptiness; in On Forgetting (2024) she rendered the tenderness of oblivion through pale strata and transparency. The new exhibition, When the Rain Makes No Sound, addresses a state in which thoughts race so loudly that perception falls silent—like being surrounded by rain whose sound cannot be heard. Tanaka visualizes this sensory displacement as rhythm and layering.
Materials function as metaphors for feeling:
the pliancy of fabric as emotional sway, the lightness of fiber as drifting thought, the weight of clay as sedimented memory. Rooted in her background in quilting, her stratified surfaces cultivate breath and interval, intertwining a Japanese sensitivity for impermanence with contemporary abstraction. Even when she engages heavy themes, the works remain luminously balanced, leaving generous space for viewers to project their own memories.
The rain doesn’t stop—only its sound is missing.
